Few weeks back, my mum and I were entrusted to parrot-sit for the 3Ts – Tweety, Tyson and Teri. William and Amelyn sought for our help as they would be out of town for 10 days.
It was probably my first time to parrot-sit 3 parrots at one go, it was definitely a challenge. Not only it was fun to have them around, but I viewed it as a great opportunity for Kacy, my Black Capped Conure to interact with other parrots.
Let’s do a brief introduction on who the 3Ts are:
Starting off with Tweety, the big sister of gang. She is a beautiful female Lutino Lovebird. My mum was really attracted to her vibrant yellow feathers and distinctive red head. She even gave mum a surprise gift on day four (I will elaborate more at the later part of the post). How nice! *Smile*
Not only Tweety is elegant, she’s well behaved. She also has an unique vocal talent. I had lovebird and have handled many lovebirds before, but I’ve yet to see one that talk with clear intonation like Tweety.
Although she doesn’t have a huge vocabulary, the only word she speaks is “Kiss, Kiss” but it is clear and concise! My mum and brother were really amazed!
Next, Tyson – the male Blue Pacific Parrotlet. The tiniest of the gang, measuring close to 4 inches and extreme lightweight. I can actually fit him easily into the pocket of my polo tees.
Tyson is the most behaved of the gang. Whenever he was out perching on our fingers or resting on our laps, he would sit quietly and barely fidget. He appreciates nice head scratches from us. Most importantly, he never ever gave us nasty bites! Tyson is really a sweetheart.
My mum loves him!
My dad loves him!
My brother loves him!
My brother’s girlfriend loves him!
And I love him too!
Everyone loves him!
I’m very certain during these 10 days, Tyson got more loves and kisses than the rest of the two. He may look fragile among the three, but we aren’t bias. He really deserved it (like what Amelyn had said Tyson had scored a “Distinction” in his report card)!
Off with Teri – the male peach-faced lovebird. While Tyson and Tweety was promoted like Angels in the sky, Teri was totally an opposite. He was probably like a devil in the gang, more like a juvenile delinquent.
During the first few days, Teri had already gave everyone his nasty bites. Real nasty bite that instantly drew blood. These bites really left us with a very bad impression of Teri. He was totally condemned!
He wasn’t really well-liked even by his own peers, Tweety and Tyson. Although being part of the gang of the 3Ts, Teri was never seen as a welcomed figure by Tweety and Tyson. Probably, because Teri was always there chasing and bullying Tweety and Tyson. Even Kacy wasn’t comfortable with Teri’s presence and his wrongdoings.
Knowing that Teri wasn’t quite handle-able like Tweety and Tyson, I decided to start giving him short, consistent parrot training sessions with the use of Positive Reinforcement Techniques. The trainings proved to be a success. Teri not only responded well to step-up commands, he also learned a new trick, the “Turn-a-Round” trick. Despite of his negative behaviors, Teri is smart and talented.
On the forth day of parrot-sitting – a Sunday, I was about to clear their cages for washing, I found something in Tweety’s cage that really surprised me! An Egg!
Tweety really delivered an egg, probably she wanted to present this egg as a “token of appreciation” for mum’s enduring love, care and devotion.
Mum was really delighted to see the surprise gift from Tweety. Mum still keep the egg even today.
It was one hot Friday evening, Kacy had already taken two water bath. Seeing Kacy enjoying her water bath, Tweety decided to join in and go for a water bath too.
Shortly after Tweety had her water bath, Teri took over the water bowl and decided to go for a water bath as well. It’s almost like a “monkey see monkey do” kind of thing.
Tweety was busy shredding paper, but soon she was interrupted by the devil – Teri. Teri actually snatched the paper over from Tweety. Poor Tweety!
The morning of the final day, I was hoping for a group photo of Tweety, Tyson and Teri with my dear Kacy, but that never happen.
Blame it all on Teri. He was really a spoilsport. He just can’t get along well with his feathered friends. The moment he was on the T-stand, Tweety, Tyson and Kacy flew off the perch immediately. I guess the parrots weren’t comfortable of Teri’s presence. He was really an unwelcome guest to the perch!
In the end, I had to leave the notorious Teri out of the picture and ended up with taking group photo of only Tweety and Tyson with Kacy.
Despite the notorious Teri was not around, it was still not an easy task to take snapshot of the three (Tweety, Tyson with Kacy). The blame was on Kacy now. Kacy just couldn’t stop fidgeting throughout the photo shoot.
I had alot of difficulties during the photo shoot, nevertheless I still managed to complete this daunting task, ended up with a nice group photo of Tweety, Tyson with Kacy.
Finally, I had to thank William and Amelyn for putting so much faith and confident in us and giving us such great opportunity to parrot-sit for the 3Ts. The 10 days of parrot-sitting was really fun and fulfilling.
By the way, thanks for the parrot toy both of you got for Kacy. She loves it!

Yes. It’s really fun to have them around and also a great opportunity for my Black Capped Conure, Kacy to interact with other parrots. It probably first in my life to parrot-sit three parrots at one time. Although it’s fun and exciting, but can rather taxing and tiring taking care of 3 parrots, and not forgetting about the on-going chatters throughout the day.

Hey Brayan,
Your blog is superb. You are having loads of fun with these birds… And your Kacy is a darling…
I would like to have the same fun as you.
a week back I have gifted 6 Love Birds to my wife on her birthday. They are sweet little cuties.
We brought them in cage and are offering them food in the cage itself.
I wish i could take them out in open and finger sit them but they are extremely terrified if I touch them and they start biting and start flying in the room and it becomes very difficult to catch them.
What techniques you think should i use so that they can start trusting me and my wife so that we can start finger sit them and start training them later on…
